It its my intent to introduce sod (i.e. grass that is genetically altered to be perfect) with weeds (i.e. grass that has not been manipulated by humans in either placement, germination, or maintenance) to reveal the boundaries and limitations of each of the grasses surroundings.

2007

Grass Crossing

2007

Grass Crossing

2007

Grass Crossing

2007

Grass Crossing

2007

Grass Crossing

Fallen from View

These tours were designed to take visitors to the Memphis Botanic Garden off the concrete paths into areas that are typically overlooked and un-discussed. The tours highlighted various topics such as; exotic and invasive species, seed dispersal methods, nature's continual cycle evident in compost piles, the introduction of animal species to balance the ecological system, and the symbiosis relationship insects have with the plant world.

The Tours concluded at the garden's compost pile, where participants were served tea and engaged in conversation on environmental issues. By showing a different vantage point, visitors had the opportunity to re-examine their relationship to the botanic garden and broader topics relating to human's relationship to the natural world.

fallen_from_view2.jpg

Tours conducted every Saturday from May 2007 to November 2007.
